This site has pop-ups and other advertisements but also offers an extensive collection of links and other resources in several subject areas.
Alphabet Soup
Warning- this site has lots of pop-ups and some of the content is placed by Google so it is not necessarily targeted toward children. Nonetheless, the site does offer a lot of really interesting content. You can find coloring pages, games, printables and topical and timely mini-unit studies to go along with each month of the year and more. I did find the materials useful, but I am not a fan of pop-ups.
Ambleside Online
This site provides a free online curriculum designed to follow the curriculum created by Charlotte Mason. The site offers book lists and makes use of free digitized books where possible. On the website you will find information about the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education, specific books and schedules for each grade level and each subject area and links to support groups.
Annie's Home Page
It seems like whenever I am looking for a holiday idea, Annie's Home Page comes up in my search. These pages are extensive and are regularly updated. The site has resources for each month and holiday. Here you can find daily Bible verses, or a suggested weekly memorization verse. Annie even has a "Psalm for Each Day" page. This site is one you'll want to bookmark!
Apples 4 the Teacher
This site has free learning tools and games, indexed by subject area. You can choose from: Arts, Languages, Literacy, Math, Science, or Social Studies. Plus you'll find articles, parent and teacher help, and a list of upcoming holiday themes and activities.
Arts Edge
Arts Edge, the National Arts and Education Network, seeks to place the arts into the curriculum and advocates the creative use of technology in the classroom. On the website you’ll find tools for creating interdisciplinary curricula for integration of the arts into all your studies, plus over 400 ready-to-use lesson plans. Students can study how to develop a character for a play or learn the notes of the treble clef staff. Additional lesson include acoustical science, Chinese calligraphy, world explorers, lightening, cicadas and more.
Bry-Back Manor
Targeted toward parents of special needs or young children, this site has general activity pages and provides a list of links to other kid friendly and general sites. One section list free icons that are available for download for your personal desktop use. Also included are printable picture recipes for several simple dishes. Very useful for children dealing with reading problems. The site has a section featuring ideas for holiday celebrations from around the world as well.
Busy Teacher’s Café
This site offers a wide range of resources from free worksheets to unit studies, activities, lesson plans, organizational tools, instructions for creating your own class website, links and more. Also, each month you’ll find a list of ideas and resources for that month’s events and activities. The site does host advertisements on each page and also offers worksheet packets for sale.
Can Teach
Can Teach offers elementary resources for a wide variety of subjects. Included are suggestions for writing prompts to assist students in journaling, suggestions for teaching fine arts, math, physical education, and more, as well as recipes and games.
Curriki
This website created by former Sun Microsystems, Inc. co-founder Scott McNealy, is billed as a Global Education and Learning Community. It is a free site dedicated to the sharing of open source educational resources and curricula. Registration is free and once an account is established you can download free lesson plans, sample tests, book chapters and other resources. As of May 2007, over 700 different resources were available for viewing or download.

Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, this website offers a wide variety of lesson plans and other resources designed to foster the studies of humanities by bringing together materials from various sponsors including museums, libraries and universities. Subject areas include: Arts & Culture, Literature & Language Arts, Foreign Language, and History and Social Studies. EdSitement also offers a monthly calendar with websites and lesson plans highlighting the events of the current month. This site offers learning resources for all ages and is designed to serve the needs of “life-long learners.” Created by two professional educators, the site provides something for everyone. 42eXplore houses archived resources and links for thematic projects suitable for school-aged learners. Geocaching provides information about the hobby of hiking and “treasure” hunting using GPS. Literature Ladders offers links and resources to assist educators in their efforts to encourage literacy.

Enchanted Learning
This website offers worksheets, craft ideas and all kinds of useful printables. Many of the items are free, but I pay the annual dues to have unlimited and pop-up free access. A wide variety of subject areas are presented with lots of options to keep little and not so little hands busy. The site has expanded its offerings to members in the last year and now includes internet based "unit" style studies on a variety of topics.
Fact Monster
Family Education
This is a commercial site, but it provides an enormous amount of resources on topics ranging from homeschooling to nutrition. The site also provides movie reviews, ideas for activities and lessons, games for kids, games for mom, and many other useful tools.
Federal Resources for Educational Excellence
A compilation of more than 1,500 federally supported teaching and learning resources can be found at this website. You can sign up to get updates of new material or browse previuously created materials in a wide variety of subject areas.
Garden of Praise
This site offers several teaching resources including printables, unit studies, Bible stories and games. You can find art appreciation units, biographies for kids, piano and Spanish lessons and more all at the GofP site.
Georgia Department of Education
Use the search options on the home page of this site to look for unit studies and lesson plans on a variety of topics and for a wide range of age groups. Most of these materials are accessible without the use of a password or registration. You may have to be creative with your search options to find exactly what you need, but there are lots of materials here.
Hubbard's Cupbard
This is a great website. It offers Christian based support for home schooling families. I was able to download and print first readers for my son that we’ve really enjoyed. Recently the website began offering the readers in French! This is definitely a site worth book marking for your home school journey.
Jan Brett's Activity Pages
At this site you can print activity and coloring pages, or play online games. There are also printable games, videos of how Jan Brett creates her illustrations and much more. As of February 2007, her websites features 3.944 pages of free activities, coloring pages and projects!
Look Learn Listen
A free site requiring registration, Look Learn Listen provides learning resources on a variety of topics, including online language schools. You can even take a short course in Hebrew at this site. This main website is flanked by Google ads.
Marilee's Pages
Marilee has collected lots of links to other fun websites to enjoy with your children. Topics range from an extensive list of links to printable paper dolls to spelling pages, international foods, native american studies and more. She also has links to famous author's websites and books. The linked sites each have their own advertising policies so you may find pop-ups at some. But Marilee has collected quite a few great resources worth checking out.
MIT OpenCourseWare
This site sponsored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers FREE college courses! It is billed by the site as a "free and open educational resource (OER) for educators, students, and self-learners around the world." What a great resource for your highschooler!

Ms. Cox’s class has put together some fun resources to share on this website. The site offers several theme pages with reading suggestions, poems and activities. The site also features a Kids Page intended to link your child to friendly resources on the internet. In addition, on the Teachers Page you’ll find links, printables, and more.

This school district has put together a virtual library for students with games, homework help and other assistance. Also at this site you can view the K-12 academic standards for California.
NC Wise Owl
This website is sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. While the many subscription databases that the site allows access to are not available to visitors, the site offers other links and resources that are available free. Subscription resources are identified by blue buttons on each page of the website. When I visited the site I noticed that even the subscription resources often had free access to some or all of their resources, so if there’s something you are interested in- give accessing it a try.

This is a government sponsored website for Saskatchewan, Canada. A wide variety of resources are offered by the site on topics ranging from Aboriginal Education to Wellness.
Sea and Learn
This UK based education site offers lessons plans covering each of the major subject areas, all with a nautical theme.
School Express
This site features links to many free resources including over 10,000 worksheets, an e-newsletter, online games and activities, online math and software programs. Subscribers to the weekly newsletter will receive access to 1 free Thematic Unit each month. A free sample can be viewed and downloaded from the website. Note: This site has many Google ads so be careful where you click. Caution: The free games on this website may not be acceptable for your family so please pre-screen the content.

The Schools of California Online Resources for Educators website is a very in depth source of information for mathematics, science, history/social science and language arts. The mathematics section includes links to resources, lesson plans and a listing of standards. In the science section you can find lesson plans and online resources, as well as links to interactive science games for students. The history section offers links to over 500 websites with materials to assist you in your social studies lessons. The site is updated regularly with links and materials to complement the current date. The language arts section includes an activity bank with forms and documents for use in language arts lessons, phonics links and online “cyber guides”- literature guides for several popular books. Each subsection is organized by age group or subject area. There are a lot of resources to explore at this site!

Smithsonian Education
This website is the “gateway to Smithsonian educational resources.” From this site you can access activity sheets, lesson plans, and other resources. A search feature allows educators and student to search through past Smithsonian Education lesson plans in Art & Design, Science & Technology, History & Culture, and Language Arts. The IdeaLabs section offers a variety of quick ideas to explore the Smithsonian collections online. The website also offers you the opportunity to sign up for a free Smithsonian Education e-newsletter.

This site provides free acces to over 27,000 lesson plans, 6,600 printable worksheets, printable generators, teaching tips and themes, games and downloads and Webquests. The Old Schoolhouse Magazine Study Hall
TOS Magazine has assembled links to free unit studies, printables and lessons plans for an assortment of study areas including Bible, College Prep, History, Mathmatics, Music, Science and more. TOS does place advertisments liberally throught the page, but it's still well worth a visit. Just be careful to click on the actual lesson links rather than the larger advertisement banner surrounding them. Also, sign up for the monthy Unit Study e-Newsletter to learn about the latest freebies.

Yale National Initiative Curricular Resources
The purpose of the Yale National Initiative is “to strengthen teaching in public schools.” On the organization’s website you can access resources from teacher institute seminars and curriculum units developed by the teacher’s institutes. The topics of these units range from Aerodynamics to Women Writers in Latin America, with plenty in between.
